Tributes Flow for the Reiners as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
Well beyond 14 days after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the duo.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Sharing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he only now felt able to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can at last articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I knew this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor posted archival material from the production, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The movie is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Principles that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a different essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would command the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with the cast, and he grasped the emotional dilemma of his character," Scorsese added.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge decided to bar the publication of the Reiners' post-mortem findings, at the request from the LAPD.
A legal directive issued a embargo on the cases to prohibit the public release of "all case details, evidence and photographs" associated with the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the consequence of murder, with a public database citing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the deaths, public individuals expressed different responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making divisive remarks that were broadly criticized by many commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the those speaking out last week. Talking on his show, Rogan described the comments as "shocking" and implied they demonstrated a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan ended by remarking that an associate should have acted when the decision to weigh in on the passing was made.
