Thrice-crowned award winner Jokic sustains a 'devastating' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Jokic endured a "gut-wrenching" injury to his knee as the Nuggets fell by a score of 147-123 against the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center injured himself in the latter stages of the opening half in an accidental collision with teammate Jones.
His teammate came down on the footwear of the MVP, who instantly fell to the floor holding his knee.
The veteran player, that tops the NBA season in rebounds and assists, posted 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before suffering the setback.
He will have an MRI on Tuesday to assess the severity of the problem.
"Right away, Jokic understood something was wrong," said Denver coach Adelman.
"Injuries are part of the game. Anyone who gets hurt, that's gut-wrenching, particularly somebody as important as he is. We'll find out more on Tuesday."
"The team will adjust together. Of course, currently, I am focused about him as a person and the letdown of going through a situation like that."
