The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
