Rise, Sir David Beckham: Football Legend Honoured by King Charles at Royal Windsor Ceremony

The football icon received a knighthood at Windsor Castle on the weekday. The former England captain, 50, was one of the individuals receiving awards for his contributions to sport and philanthropy. Earlier this year, he stated he was “extremely honored” of being recognised in the King’s birthday honours.

Football Career Highlights

The player made his Premier League debut for the Red Devils in 1995 and was a key member that secured a dramatic European Cup win in the late nineties when they beat Bayern Munich with two late goals.

In total, he scored eighty-five scores and collected honours including multiple English championships and domestic cup wins as a soccer professional, before ending his playing career in the past decade. Alongside his football career, he has backed a number of charity causes, including serving as a charitable representative for global aid group the United Nations Children's Fund since the mid-2000s.

Philanthropy and Beyond

Last year, Beckham, who has described himself as a “devoted monarchist”, was appointed an ambassador for the royal educational charity, an educational charity established by the King in 1990. In the late nineties he was named top fashion icon by GQ magazine and he has modelled for companies such as the fashion retailer, Armani, and the luxury label.

David tied the knot with Victoria in 1999 and the couple have a family of four kids together – their eldest, Romeo, the third child, and Harper.
