The deceased of a 34-year-old woman and her young daughter, 10 have been discovered inside freezers in an apartment in the western part of Austria.

The deceased, a woman from Syria and her child, who had been missing for several months, were uncovered on Friday. The cooling units were concealed behind a false wall in the dwelling, situated in the Innsbruck area.

A pair of males, a 55-year-old Austrian and his 53-year-old brother, were taken into custody in June. The elder brother, a work associate of the female victim, told authorities last week that there had been an incident—but rejected homicide.

Addressing reporters previously, a official for the legal authorities stated the pair were being kept in custody on "serious suspicion of murder".

Personal details of those concerned have not been released by authorities, in compliance with local legislation.

Their going missing was initially flagged by the female victim's relative, who lives in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Investigators said the 55-year-old suspect told them at the time she had taken an prolonged visit with her child to see her family in the nation of Turkey.

Her bank card was then noted as being active overseas repeatedly.

But when officers searched the victim's residence, her smartphone was found.

Someone also stated hearing a disturbing sound in the dwelling, and screams of "mama" on the day the two were thought to have disappeared.

An expanded official inquiry was initiated, with authorities finding several texts sent from the woman's phone—including a resignation letter to her employer and communications to the 55-year-old suspect.

Authorities said a four-figure sum was also sent to the individual.

Katja Tersch informed reporters on recently that a storage unit had been leased before the mother and child went missing and a cooling unit had been installed within.

The brothers took out the freezer from the unit on the date the woman and her child went missing, she stated. And a seven days after, they acquired another freezer.

Authorities say they consider this indicates the deaths were planned in advance.

"How they died was not identifiable due to the advanced decay of the victims," Tersch said.

The prosecutor's spokesman—from the legal authorities—stated the specific order of occurrences is yet to be determined, but the bodies were carefully placed and went unnoticed during a prior examination.

While the brothers were taken into custody in the summer, it was not until 12 November that the elder brother admitted to an incident and to hiding the bodies. He disputes any intent to kill, investigators said.

In a related development, his younger brother acknowledged a attempt to hide evidence but denied awareness of a homicide.

The two suspects are presently in detention before court proceedings in detention centers in Innsbruck and Salzburg, situated at a distance.

In a joint statement, the nation's official for women's affairs and Justice Minister declared the "reported homicide of mother and child... symbolizes the sudden and brutal end of a mother and child and reveals a cruel system".

"Women and girls are being murdered due to the sole reason that they are women and girls," they went on to say.

"Femicides are a deeply rooted and widespread concern that we must combat firmly."
